PSU Sailing: Practice and WSC Sailing School

Some of you may have noticed that for the first hour of our practices, we overlap with the Willamette Sailing School summer camp.  They will be there every weekday from 9-4 doing youth camps and every weekend from 9-6 doing adult classes.

Please do not interfere with any of the classes.  If they are using the clubhouse, stay out until they're done.  Please don't try to help the students even if they seem to be struggling, it will make the instructor's job a lot harder. Students respond much better if they only have one source of information using consistent direct commands, if you begin to impart information, it will just confuse them.

Most of all, please respect that the children are at summer camp and don't need to be exposed to any bad language or bad habits so please don't curse or smoke cigarettes or have inappropriate discussions when the kids can hear or see you.  Please don't let this become an issue.

PSU Sailing: Summer Boat Assignments

Since it is starting to seem unlikely that we will get the quorum I'd been hoping for at practice, here are the Boat Assignments so far.

Thistle - Daniel
Tasar - James
Unmarked Laser - Josh
Laser R - Justin

We will work on splitting up the FJs soon as well, but since the boats above are the ones that should be raced and have the most maintenance issues right now, I wanted to get them assigned.

PSU Sailing: Schedule, Boat Assignments and Inventory

Our summer schedule so far is going to be: Mondays at 3, Wednesdays at 3, and Fridays at 1 at WSC.

There is also Laser racing on Mondays nights starting at 6:30, and Tasar/Thistle/FJ racing Wednesdays at 6:30.

On that note, we will be discussing a new system of Boat Assignments.  We will be labeling all the parts that go with each boat and each person will be assigned a boat.
It is that person's responsibility to check the boat each week to make sure nothing is broken or breaking, and if it is, to notify Josh or me and help us with the repair.
That person is also responsible for making sure the boat gets sailed as much as possible.
This means that whoever is in charge of a laser should either race it on Monday nights, or try to find someone to race it.
If anyone else wants to sail a certain boat, they must talk to the person to whom it's assigned.
We will be talking about this system and assigning boats at practice this week, making clarifications as needed.

We also need to do an inventory of all of the club's equipment.  When we do boat assignments I will pass out inventory forms so that everyone can inventory the parts from their boat.  Then we will need to empty out the locker and inventory all of the spare parts, life vests, etc.
It will also offer us an opportunity to reorganize the locker since right now it is a total mess.
