PSU sailing: This week

Hey Team,
I hope everyone survived finals and are ready to hit the water again. We
will be practicing at the usual times this week to get ready for NW Coeds up
in Seattle this weekend. The convoy will leave WSC at around 1800 or so.
Everyone is welcome to come since we have lots of room. Let me know by
TUESDAY AFTERNOON IF YOU ARE COMING! I dont have much to say for once so
see everyone tomorrow at practice.

PSU sailing: The problem of epiphanies

The problem with epiphanies is that sometimes they don't provide the advice
you expect. It turns out that I am not going to school for the sole purpose
of becoming a better dinghy sailor. In fact my primary focus is supposed to
be applications of singularity functions and converting imperial units to
metric. (Really what is a BTU anyway?) Out of respect to America's
taxpayers, there will not be any practice next Monday or Wednesday the 17th
& 19th. This will allow those that have mastered unit conversions or art
majors to study for final exams. We will practice on the 21st since Friday
exams don't count towards final grades. Also plan for an informal team
banquet afterwards. So make sure your TI-89 has fresh batteries, eat
bananas and show up on time. Good luck team! Oh yeah we will practice
tomorrow the 14th at the usual time.

PSU sailing: I am such a jerk!

I cant believe that I almost forgot to thank the two people who contributed most to the health, safety and success of our team during the McIntyre trip.  First is Stevi's Mom who insisted that we stop by her beautiful kitchen in Medford where the team was lavishly fed on short notice.  Last, but not least;Tom's Mom who provided first rate accommodations and a hearty healthy breakfast.  Also she gave us, among other things, a box of tangerines which kept the scurvy at bay and possibly saved our life on Saturday.  Thank you very much ladies, your hospitality is very appreciated.

PSU sailing: Another update

Hello team and sailing fans,
Its been a few weeks since I have sent out an update so here it goes.
Without digressing too far: a couple of weekends ago six of us headed up to
Orcas Island for the NW Team Race.
I had never been to the San Juan Islands before but had huge
expectations. The island delivered as promised and we had excellent sailing
weather for two whole days. I have been told that is approaching miracle
status in the North-West. The wind was a bit light for my taste (read: big
ass) but it was warm and relatively consistent. The team did well, and held
our own among most of the schools. UW put on an excellent event and we
thank them very much. Also thanks go out to WWU for hooking up the meals.
Last weekend we traveled to Redwood City, CA for the McIntyre Team Race
hosted by Stanford. It was hinted that we were a bit out of our league...
Well... We were. The teams that competed were some of the top teams in
college sailing and I can definitely see why. The wind was phenomenal and
the racing was very exciting. Major points go out to Adam who skippered in
his first regatta ever. He handled 20-25kts like Captain Aubrey off a lee
shore... Also contrary to what you might have heard, we did not finish the
second round because of an injury. And by the way, Coach K. she would have
sailed one handed if we let her. In addition, remind your team not to
approach a dock down wind, its rarely a good idea unless you want to file an
insurance claim.
Please check the website for updates and the schedule. We have NW coeds
coming up in Seattle. Lots of people will race so get to practice. The
week after that we will be taking a team back to the Bay Area for St.
Francis. This time we are bringing Amy Tan and someone is going home
crying!
One last thing. For any fair weather sailors out there... The weather
is fair so get down to practice. See you all on the water!
-Josh
