We'll be practicing at 3pm on Wednesdays and Fridays this term starting this week.
Also we will be having an open house this Saturday, so if you are on the list but haven't come down to the docks to try out sailing yet it will be the perfect oppritunity. Stay posted for the details I'll send out another email soon.
Hey Sailors, We're now leaving at noon from the Stott center on campus. Also we are bringing a cooler, so if you want to bring food, you are more than welcome to put it in there. please don't be late. if you don't have a wetsuit, please rent on from the outdoor center ($6 for the weekend) and bring it with you.
There will be a driver training session Wednesday Morning at 9 am in the REC Office. This is a special session that they set up just for us. We need people to attend in order to go to canada.
please get a copy of your driver records from dmv and bring them with you. I know this is short notice, but since the last training was canceled this is the best we could do. Please, Please, Please attend. Once again this is a special session setup just for sailors.
let me know if you have any questions and if your planing on attending
So this weekend we'll be going to Canada Cup. I need everyone going on the trip to be at practice on Wednesday. If your not going, there will be no practice on friday.
here is the Line up:
SkipperCrew
Tom-Kenji
Sky-Stephan
Julia-Shannon/Alieta
Adam-Nick
We will leave from the Stott Center on campus at 10 am on friday the 13th. if you're not sure where this is check out THIS. Please be there at 10 am sharp ready to go with all of your stuff.
I made the ferry reservations for Canada Cup, here's the final list of who's going:
Adam
John S
Stephan M
Tom
Julia
Sky
Shannon S
Kenji
Nick
Alieta
That being said, to everyone on this list I own your soul! Not really, but please show up to ALL practices between now and next weekend. Remember that you are required to attend practice friday the week BEFORE the regatta, and since we're leaving too early to practice on the 13th, you should all be at practice today and next wednesday. There was heavy breeze at this regatta last year, so we should all practice as much as possible.
Thanks for signing up everyone, this regatta is going to be a blast. See you at practice, -Adam
PS if you have any questions about travelling into Canada, don't hesitate to ask.
Here's a few issues regarding Western Canada Cup, March 13-15. Please read carefully, this is all very important to those planning on traveling with the team to Victoria:
1. I need to know ASAP if you're in or out for Canada Cup. Here's who I have on the list:
John S.
Stephan M.
Tom
Julia
Sky
Shannon S.
Kenji
Nick
2. If you're not on the list and want to go, or on this list and you can't go, let me know ASAP, OR YOU WILL WALK THE PLANK! Just kidding, but I do need a commitment from everyone going, as I'm making ferry reservations today.
3. It's going to be a bit of a drive up to the ferry in Vancouver BC, so plan on skipping your classes friday march 13, we'll probably leave around 11 am. The ferry leaves around 8:30 pm, and it will take a while to get through seattle and cross the border. If you really can't get out of class then let me know soon and we'll try to plan accordingly, but do keep in mind the time constraints we're facing.
4. Speaking of the border, passports are recommended but not required. If you do not have a passport then you will need a valid driver's license and a birth certificate. Also if you have any criminal convictions, make sure it won't be an issue at the border crossing. I'm just saying because U Vic sent out a message warning that some criminal convictions will deny entry into Canada. If you have any questions about the border, check the state department's travel website http://travel.state.gov/
5. Also don't forget to email Tom ASAP about the JV regatta this weekend. Even though we don't need to make travel reservations, we need a head count so we can tell visiting teams how many extra boats we have to loan out.
Thanks everybody, hope your term is going well, please let me know if you have any questions.
1. We had an awesome time in Orcas Island this weekend. Saturday was a blast, but since winds picked up and were extremely puffy they called it around 4. Today there was no wind, so we ended up just drifting around for a bit. In the end we had 3 races and won 2 of them. Julia and Adam were extremely fast all weekend, and even got a first place in one of the races. Sky and Stephan did some great blocking. Kenji....well, he's just a machine. Nick and Graham sailed with our canadian friends and helped us win our first race. Over all we had a great time.
2. This coming weekend is the LC JV regatta at WSC. If you would like to sail in it, please email me as soon as possible (tmiron@gmail.com). I need a final head count by wednesday so that i can tell LC how many of our boats they can borrow to charter out. This is a fun regatta and a great way to gain experience. It will only be first and second year college sailors skippering the boats so the competition will be evened out a bit.
3. In order to travel we need two certified drivers per car. When we go to canada cup in 2 weeks we need 4 certified drivers. The next driver training is from 3-4pm Tuesday March 3rd in Smith 326. Please bring your driver's license with you. there is more info here:
4. We still have t-shirts for sail. There are pictures attached of what they look like. The blue one is $10 and the green one is $7. Please email Julia with which shirt and size you want so she can bring it to practice for you. julecell@gmail.com
