PSU sailing: PSU Sailing
We're off to a great start this season, everyone is making great
progress and I think we'll surprise a few people on the water this
season. I wanted to write to everyone now, before our first regatta, to
encourage everyone to keep coming to practice, keep working hard. PSU
Sailing has much potential and it's only going to be through continuing
to develop skills that the team can fulfill the promise of that
potential, which means continuing to come to practice, even when it's
cold and rainy, even when there's not much in the way of wind. The best
teams are the ones that continue to find ways to keep moving forward, to
keep improving, little by little, and the best way to keep moving
forward is to have as many people at practice as possible, every time out.
As a reminder about gear, many of you are new and have not yet made the
plunge to get some of the gear you will be needing more and more as we
get into late fall. While I understand the situation I'd also like to
encourage you to get some proper gear, as the river and air gets colder
and as we begin to have more raw days proper gear is essential. You can
easily sail year round in Portland with the right stuff. Remember the
team gets good discounts at several merchants, both online and locally
in Portland; I encourage those of you who have not already done so to
consider getting at least spray pants and booties, which with some sort
of weatherproof top are enough for most conditions; remember also it's
important to layer, and stay away from cotton. A spray top is a great
purchase as well. Talk to one of the officers about the specifics
relating to the discounts.
