PSU sailing: Weekly Update
Howdy y'all,
We just got back from a fun weekend of racing in Galveston, Texas. Some
of us must have forgotten what it was like to sail in the warm sun; but it
was everything I vaguely remember. Before the first race Stevi and I were
trying to decide whether we should wear thermals or boots. Unfortunately we
packed thermals (unnecessary) but not sunscreen, so after eight races on
Saturday our melanin deficient bodies were suitably pink.
The wind was a consistent 8-12 knots from the nearly the same direction
for two whole days. Serious credit goes out to Justin and Adam for pulling
out some great finishes and keeping us out of the basement. After a few
early stumbles they held their own in the front half of B-division for every
race. As for A-division well... I have always insisted that sailing is a
thinking-(wo)mans sport and I consistently forgot about that little gem
despite Stevi's helpful reminders. But I must say that I did learn quite a
bit about tactics and reading the course which is something I knew needed
improvement. So now if I can just put it all together...
A Texas sized thanks to TAMUG for hosting the regatta and setting up an
excellent barbeque, Chad for inviting us to his house and for the 420 tips
and also the Flagship Hotel for a unique sleep experience.
Next weekend is the NW clinic up at UW-Sand Point. I need confirmation
by Tuesday evening about who will attend. If I do not here from you I will
assume that you are not going and will cancel one of the vehicle
reservations, which means no room. Call, email or skywrite your intentions
by Tuesday at 1530.
Also this Friday Lewis and Clark (sailing team, not the explorers) will
join is for a special team race practice so be there! One last note to any
Texans reading this: Potato Salad does not fulfill the same dietary
requirements as green salad. But I love your iced tea.
See you on the bayou,
-Josh
