St. Francis Intersectional

St. Francis Yacht Club & Stanford University

San Francisco, CA

April 2-3, 2011

Saturday: Racing started on time at 1100, with a light westerly building
to 10-13 knots around 1430. A strong ebb dominated the first sets,
switching to an equally strong flood as the breeze died down later in
the afternoon.

A-Division, dominated by Cal Maritime skipper Sean Kelly and crew
Jessica Schember, completed five races. B-Division sailed four races,
ending the day in a close-tie between Stanford (12 points) and
University of South Florida (13 points).

Sunday: Day 2 started off very un-San Francisco, easterly winds at 5
knots. Unfortunately the wind died before a race could be started in the
weakening easterly. At noon, the classic San Francisco westerly rolled
in from under the Golden Gate Bridge and the racing was on. 3 A races
and 4 B races were completed in 10-15 knots of breeze. The current on
the course was a major factor as it was went from a strong ebb tide to a
strong flood tide in the middle of the day. The racing was very tight
and South Florida held off a hard charging Cal Maritime team for the
win. Congratulations to South Florida for winning the 19th Annual St.
Francis Intersectional! One protest was heard, resulting in a DSQ.

All boats were asked to put the letters "D B" on their sails in honor of
David Blackett. David was a UC San Diego sailor who recently passed
away.

Special thanks to Regatta Chair Shannon Bonds, Principal Race Officer
Harrison Turner, and Jury Chair Bryan McDonald for their hard work this
weekend.
